Vaccinations are preventative medicine. In other words they serve the purpose of protecting your pet from common diseases in his or her environment. These are called Core Vaccines. There are also Noncore vaccines for diseases that only part of the population may be exposed. We carry the following Core and Noncore vaccines as recommended by the American Veterinary Medicine Associations Vaccine Council’s recommendations. New research has also showed that vaccines last in the body for much longer than a year; therefore we will help you determine the best extended vaccine schedule for your pet.
Puppies and Kittens: All puppies need vaccines every 3-4 weeks from the time they are 6-8 weeks of age until they are 16 weeks of age. They are not any better protected by numerous vaccines when they are younger due to the mother’s antibodies she passes to her babies blocking these vaccines. All
- Puppies should receive a Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza and Parvo vaccine at the recommended intervals. Then Rabies at 16 weeks. These vaccines will be boostered at 1 year of age before an extended vaccine schedule.
- Kittens should receive a Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calcivirus and Panleukopenia vaccine at the recommended intervals. Rabies is recommended since we had our first case of rabies in Long Beach in 2014 as well as recent cases of rabies in bats in LA County.
We are not considered protected to socialize with other nonhousemates until 2 sets of vaccines
Boosters: These are vaccines given at 1 year of age and thereafter on the extended vaccine schedule
